In good condition here is a first edition, first printing of JM Barrie's Peter and Wendy. Undated (as required for the true first), and would have been published in 1911 by Hodder & Stoughton, London. With black and white illustrated plates by FD Bedford. Scarce in good condition.
Peter Pan; or, the Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up, often known simply as Peter Pan. First appearing in the form of a 1904 play and then this 1911 novel titled Peter and Wendy. Both versions tell the story of Peter Pan, a mischievous little boy who can fly, and has many adventures on the island of Neverland that is inhabited by mermaids, fairies, "Indians" (American-Indians), and pirates.
Inside the contents are in good condition. The book opens onto the book plate of Frank Porter on the front paste down, with some offsetting on the opposite front free endpaper which also has a small chip out of the top edge. The main CONDITION POINT with this copy is foxing to the endpapers, page edges and and then sporadically through the text - with some pages fairly heavily spotted (see photos), but with a lot having no spotting at all. With cracking to the front hinge to reveal webbing but in no way effecting the binding of the text block which is good and strong. Has thirteen delightful black and white plates including the frontsipiece and title page. This is required for the true first, with later editions having twelve. All of the plates are in good condition with a couple protruding slightly around the closed page edges. With a very slight lean.
Olive green cloth covered boards have delightful gilt decoration to the front and spine. Again in good condition with some dulling to some of the gilt decoraion around the border on the front board. With some rubbing to the cloth at the corners and at the head, tail and joints of the spine. Has a bump to the bottom front corner.
Your first edition copy of Peter and Wendy will be wrapped with care in tissue and ribbon* and sent well packaged. I am always happy to add a gift card with a message to the parcel.
