1910 The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam / Hodder & Stoughton, London / With Twelve Wonderful Illustrations by Edmund Dulac

Here is a lovely antique edition of The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam. Undated but would have been published in 1910 by Hodder & Stoughton, London. Has twelve wonderful colour plates by Edmund Dulac. This copy is around 114 years old and so inevitably has a bit of wear, (detailed below), but remains a charming copy.

The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam is the title that Edward FitzGerald gave to his translation of a selection of poems, originally written in Persian, attributed to Omar Khayyám (1048–1131), a Persian poet, mathematician and astronomer. A ruba'i is a two-line stanza with two parts per line. The translations best known in English are those by Edward FitzGerald (1809–1883) who produced a number of different versions. 

Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound. Has some spotting to the front title page  With a few chips to the fore-edges. All of the wonderful colour plates are present and in top condition.

Bright red cloth covered boards have ornate gilt decoration to the front and spine. Has some fading to the red around the edges of the boards and a good deal of fading to the spine in comparison to the front and back. The spine has a very faint stain near the bottom. Has some rubbing to the cloth on the corners to reveal boards beneath. Also has some rubbing, nicks and a little fraying to the spine ends. The gilt peacock on the front remains in top order.
