From 1909 here is a hardback antique copy of Adventurers in America by Ascott R Hope. It is a "collection of personal narratives of adventure, chosen not only for their own interest, but as representing notable phases of American life". With twelve colour plates.
Contents: Wanderings in Wonderland; A Folorn Colony; A Missionary Hero; Adventurers Against Their Will; A Fur Trader's Perils; A White Indian; A Subaltern's Story; In the Frozen North; In the Far West; An Underground Passenger.
Inside the pages are tightly bound. The main condition point with the contents is spotting to the endpapers and heavier scattered foxing through the text, concentrated around the colour plates (see photos). Has a faint pencilled inscription at the top of the front free endpaper but no other writing or markings of previous ownership. The top edge is gilt, with mild spotting to the other two sides.
Red cloth covered boards have decoration to the front and spine. All in good condition. The front board has stayed in super condition with bright decoration and shiny gilt. The red cloth on the spine has faded a little and this has carried round onto the back board.
