In good condition, here is a Victorian copy of The Book of the Dairy by W Fleischmann. Published in 1896 by Blackie & Son, London. This copy is a first edition. Extremely comprehensive and richly illustrated.

Covering a wide range of topics related to dairy work, from the basics of cow physiology to advanced techniques in milking and dairy management. The book is designed to be an indispensable resource for dairy farmers, providing practical insights and expert advice on every aspect of dairy farming. It's praised for its detailed explanations and thorough coverage of both the science and practice of dairy work.

Contents: The Secretion, Properties and Composition of Milk; The Extraction, Immediate Sale and Testing of Milk; Milk in Its Relation to Micro-Organisms, Dairying and Bacteriology; The Manufacture of Butter; Cheese and Cheese-Making; Preparation of Keeping Milk, Fermented Milk, And the Bye-Products of Milk; The Economic Aspects of Dairying; Margarine and Margarine Cheese.

Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound. With occasional mild spotting, and slight spotting to the page edges. Has some light staining on the top edge of the first few pages. There is an inked name at the top of the title page dated 1896 and occasionally in the text there is the odd small pencil note in the margin. I have left these in as they look to be useful information. There are only just a small number and are hardly noticeable. Richly illustrated with black and white diagrams and with a couple of plates in colour.

Grey-blue cloth covered boards have dark blue decoration to the front and gilt to the spine. Clean and smart with just the odd light mark. With slight rubbing to the corners and spine ends, and a couple of small splits at the head of the spine.
