1891 The Blue Poetry Book Ed. Andrew Lang / First Edition / Richly Illustrated

In very good condition this is a stunning edition of The Blue Poetry Book Edited by Andrew Lang. Being a first edition published in 1891 by Longmans, Green & Co., London. Richly illustrated in colour and line by HJ Ford and Lancelot Speed. In a beautiful decorative binding.

With poetry from Blake; Cowper; Longfellow; Scott; Burns; Shakespeare; Byron; Poe; Coleridge; Shelley and Wordsworth amongst many others.

Inside the pages are super being clean, bright and tightly bound with just the occasional bit of spotting/tanning. The verso of the front free endpaper has a small pencil price of "21/-" and a some very faint pencil which has been almost completely erased in the top corner, but no other writing or markings of previous ownership. There are numerous excellent black and white plates and line drawings in the text. Pages are gilt edged on all three sides and this has remained shiny bright.

In blue cloth over boards with ornate gilt decoration to the front and spine. Again in top order. Mild rubbing to the cloth on the corner tips and spine ends, with a few tiny nicks in the cloth at the very edges. Has a bump to the bottom front corner, and one to the rear fore-edge (see photos), otherwise just a couple of light indents and some mild shelf-wear to the rear board. The gilt decoration is shiny bright and this is a stunning book to display.
