1883 The Vicar of Wakefield by Oliver Goldsmith / Bickers & Son London / Beautifully Illustrated / In a Lovely Full Polished Leather Binding

In good condition here is a lovely copy of The Vicar of Wakefield by Oliver Goldsmith. In a fine full polished red leather binding, with gilt tooling, marbled endpapers and twelve photogravure illustrations. Published in 1883 by Bickers & Son, London.

Inside the pages are clean, bright and tightly bound. Has a prize bookplate on the front marbled paste down but no other writing or markings of previous ownership. All twelve superb illustrated plates are present and in good condition. Also has decorative chapter headers and footers. Pages are gilt edged on all sides and this is shiny bright.

Beautifully bound. The red leather has a gilt crest in the middle of the front board - Garde Ta Foi or Keep the Faith. Has gilt tooled borders and dentelles to the edges. The leather has some scuffs and light marks but remains shiny and bright. The spine has five raised bands with ornate gilt decoration in each compartment and a leather title plate. All in top order, with a little rubbing to the spine ends and corners of the boards.
