1880s Fairy Tales & Household Stories by Hans Andersen / Antique Illustrated Decorative Book

A fantastic antique illustrated book of Fairy Tales and Household Stories by The Brothers Grimm. Undated, but would have been published around 1880 by George Routledge & Sons, London. Containing around 200 stories - with a colour frontispiece and fifteen further full-page black and white plates. This copy is around 145 years old, and so inevitably has some wear, but remains a wonderful edition.

Just a few of the many tales include: Rapunzel; Snow White and Rose Red; Rumpelstiltskin; The Frog Prince; The Golden Goose and Cinderella.

Inside the pages are tightly bound. They have some spotting and brown blemishes through the text. With some marks and tape marks to the blank endpapers. Pencil inscription to front paste down. Front hinge has partially cracked giving the front board a wobble, but the binding of the text block remains good and strong. Outside edges have some tanning and spotting. A few folded corners. The colour frontispiece has a nick to the outside edge. It still has the original tissue guard present, which is clean and bright. All of the other plates are in top order.

Dark red cloth over boards have decoration to the front and spine, and gilt titles. In very good order, clean and smart. Rubbing to the cloth on the corners and spine ends. The gilt titles on the spine have dulled in comparison to the shiny bright front. Otherwise decoration is smart and this is an attractive antique edition.
