1866 1st US Edition - Wives and Daughters by Mrs. Gaskell / Harper & Brothers, New York / In Very Good Condition / Illustrated / Scarce

Here is a scarce 1st US edition copy of Wives and Daughters by Elizabeth Gaskell. Published in 1866 by Harper & Brothers, New York. With many black line drawn illustrations. In very good condition.

Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound. With spotting to the endpapers, and occasional scattered spots in the text. Has an inked inscription to the front free endpaper dated 1867, and there are also the remnants of a page with inked writing which has been removed but partly left behind (see photos). The text is in double columns. One page has a tear to the corner.

Original maroon-brown dimpled cloth covered boards have gilt titles to the spine. Again in good order. With some light fading across the tops of the boards. The spine has also faded mildly in comparison to the front and back. Lightly rubbed corners and spine ends.
