1840 A History of the Earth and Animated Nature by Oliver Goldsmith - Richly Illustrated Antique Book

In very good condition, here is a leather bound antique copy of A History of the Earth and Animated Nature. Published in 1840 by Thomas Nelson, Edinburgh. Superbly illustrated with twenty detailed black and white plates of animals, fish, insects etc. In a leather binding with the endpapers, edges and boards all being marbled. Condition in detail below.

Being a 19th-century Victorian re-issue of a massive, beloved 18th-century natural history compilation. Originally published posthumously in eight volumes in 1774, it served as an all-encompassing, highly accessible guide to geology, geography, and the animal kingdom. This copy is far more accessible version, and is complete as published in the one volume.

Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound with no inscriptions or markings of previous ownership. All of the black and white plates are also in top order.

In a lovely deep-brown leather binding. The spine has four raised bands, each with gilt decoration. Has some rubbing to the leather corner pieces to reveal boards beneath. A little rubbing also to the spine ends and just a few light scuffs to the spine - but minor. The marbled papered boards have kept a good colour. Again just some rubbing around the outside edges, and to the surface on the back. Very well bound - no cracked hinges.
