1836 The Botanic Garden by Maund / Simpkin, Marshall and Co., London / One Volume From a Series / 24 Handcoloured Plates of 96 Flowers

Here is a beautifully illustrated antique hardback copy of The Botanic Garden by B Maund. With 24 individually hand-coloured plates, with four flowers to a plate, so 96 flowers in total. Undated but would have been published as part of a much larger set in 1836 by Simpkin, Marshal & Co., London. This particular volume is numbered IX. In good condition.

Inside the pages are clean, bright and tightly bound, with the occasional spot. Has a cracked hinge near the beginning, but in no way effecting the binding of the text block, which is good and strong. All of the plates are in good condition - some have a few small pencil notes next to a flower in the outer margin. With tissue guards for each plate - lacking a couple. With some tanning and spotting around the outside edges, and some light staining to the edge of the last few pages.

In a green leather binding, with blue and green marbled papered sides. Has rubbing to the surface of the sides to remove some of the pattern. Rubbing also to the leather on the corners, to reveal boards beneath at the tips.

The spine has five raised bands with gilt decoration, plus a Moroccan leather title plate. Some rubbing and scuffs to the leather.
