Two extremely early copies of Sir Walter Scott's The Lady of the Lake and of The Lord of the Isles. The Lady of the Lake was first published in May 1810 when 2,000 copies were printed. Due to its popularity several more editions were printed in that same year by Ballantyne & Co and this copy is a fifth edition from 1810. Similarly for The Lord of the Isles 1750 copies were printed on 2nd January 1815 with further editions being published in April and May. This copy of The Lord of the Isles is a second edition from that year, 1815. Both of these books are well over 200 years old and their condition is good.
Inside the contents are clean and tightly bound with no writing or inscriptions. They have spotting throughout the text and the occasional blemish or handling mark. The Lady of the Lake has a few tanned pages. Both books have comprehensive notes at the end.
Brown cloth covered boards have fading to the spines and around the edges. They both have some rubbing and chipping to the cloth at the heads and tails of the spines. The Lady of the Lake has a split to the surface cloth along the spine joint. This is to the surface cloth only and the binding of both books is good and strong. The gilt titles and leaf decoration has remained shiny bright.
A chance to obtain two copies of Sir Walter Scott's works published well within the author's own lifetime (he did not die until 1832). Your copies of The Lady of The Lake and The Lord of the Isles will be wrapped with care in tissue and ribbon* and sent well packaged. I am always happy to add a gift card with a message if desired.
Each book H 22.5 cm x W 14 cm, 443 and 433 pages, combined weight of the two books 1.3 kg. I dispatch worldwide daily from the UK. (With the exception of a small number of countries).
* If you would prefer for your books not to be decoratively wrapped and sent simply in the full protective packaging please add a note to the order.
