An authoritative and richly illustrated antique hardback copy of The Gardens and Menagerie of the Zoological Society Delineated - Birds. Originally published as two separate volumes, the first on quadrupeds, and this volume devoted entirely to birds. Published in 1831 by John Sharpe, London. In a fine binding and with an illustration for each bird. More details below.
Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound. Has spotting to the endpapers and early pages. Then just the odd spot and brown blemish in the text. Tanning and spotting to the closed outside edges. Black engraved illustrations as page headers. Extremely comprehensive.
Calf leather spine and corners, with blue marbled papered boards. Has some rubbing to the leather on the extremities. Some rubbing and scuffing also to the leather on the spine, plus some staining in places (see photos). Black leather title plate with gilt titles. Rubbing too, to the marbled paper on the surface of the boards.
