The Complete Novels of Jane Austen in Five Volumes / 23ct Gold on Real Lambskin Luxury Edition / Stunning and Scarce Collector's Edition

An extremely scarce and beautiful luxury set of The Complete Novels of Jane Austen in five volumes. In absolutely excellent condition. All of the volumes have the appearance of having never been read. This is the best condition for this set that I have come across.

The novels are: Sense and Sensibility; Pride and Prejudice; Mansfield Park; Emma, with Northanger Abbey and Persuasion being bound together in one volume. This represents a complete collection of all six of Austen's finished novels.

Between 1968 and 1977 Heron Books of London produced the set of Austen's works as a tribute to the author. Bound in cyan blue real lambskin leather, ornately embellished with 23ct gold detailing to spines, covers and all page edges. The volumes open onto pale blue silk moire endpapers. This edition has pale blue book ribbon markers and black and white illustrations in each volume (see photos).

The condition of the set is excellent, there are only two condition points to note. One is some very mild rubbing to the leather around the outside edges, (see photo of the top edge). The other is that the books have an old leather book smell. This is common with this edition. In order to have remained in such good condition the books have clearly been stored away for many years and so I believe the old leather book aroma will disperse once the books are put back out on display. 

The pages are clean, bright and tightly bound. They have never been written in and internally there are no other stamps, marks or signs of previous ownership. The books have gold on all three edges which is bright and sparkly. The pale blue silk endpapers are also beautiful and unmarked (see photos).

The stunning leather covers are superb. They are un-faded and all of the gold decoration remains sparkly bright. The front boards have ornate gold decoration and the rear boards are plain blue leather.

The spines are delightful with slightly raised bands and compartments. There is elaborate gold work here and also white kid leather title and author plates. (The "E" on the Austen of Emma has lost a little gilt). The set looks wonderful on display.
