In excellent condition here is a large, comprehensive and richly illustrated vintage hardback copy of The Annotated Black Beauty by Anna Sewell. Published in 1989 by JA Allen, London. In the original dust wrapper which reads:

"This edition is published from one of the most attractive earlier editions, with in-text illustrations by Lucy Kemp-Welch dating from 1915. A new historical introduction describes the social background, the author's life, and the publishing history of the book. Annotations to the text clarify lost or misunderstood meanings of equestrian terms and customs, as well as placing the descriptions of Victorian life and manners in their historical context. A bibliography lists all the major editions and translations, in addition to related works. Throughout the book contemporary drawings and photographs are used, as well as some of the best illustrations of the story itself from previous editions."

Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound with no writing or other markings of previous ownership. 

In the original unclipped dust wrapper which is also in excellent condition. It has now been protected for the future by the addition of a removable plastic sleeve.
