Widely regarded as one of the best and most authoritative biographies ever written, here is a copy of Marlborough His Life and Times by Winston S. Churchill. Churchill was a lineal descendant of the duke. Complete in two volumes and published in 1966 by George Harrap & Co., London.

American political philosopher Leo Strauss was particularly impressed by this book, stating in 1965 after hearing of the death of Churchill: "Not a whit less important than his deeds and speeches are his writings, above all his Marlborough—the greatest historical work written in our century, an inexhaustible mine of political wisdom and understanding, which should be required reading for every student of political science."

Originally published in 1933/1934 in four volumes. The book was then re-published in 1966 combining two of the original volumes into one to make a set of two. Containing 2 photogravure portrait frontispieces, 14 facsimiles of documents, and an astonishing 195 maps and plans, a number of them folding (see photos). 

The contents are in very good condition with the pages clean, bright and tightly bound with no writing or other markings of previous ownership. The top closed edges are tinted red and these have spotting, with some spotting also to the closed outside edges.

Red cloth covered boards with gilt crests are in good condition having been well protected by the dust wrappers.

The dust jackets themselves have a lot of wear. They have foxing and a number of nicks and tears to the edges, (see photos). With a few chips and small areas of loss. Despite the nicks and tears they are un-clipped and remain almost entirely complete with no large areas of loss. The jackets have now been protected for the future by the addition of a removable archival plastic sleeve.
