1920s The Water Babies by Charles Kingsley / Raphael Tuck & Sons London / Richly Illustrated by Mabel Lucie Attwell / Vintage Childrens Book

In good condition, here is a lovely vintage copy of The Water Babies by Mabel Lucie Attwell. Undated but would have been published in the 1920s by Raphael Tuck & Sons, London. With six colour plates and a number of line drawings. With some foxing, and some brown blemishes in the margins being the condition points to note, detailed below.

Inside the book opens with an inscription and a couple of ink marks to the front free endpaper, and a faint mark on the paste down opposite. With the above-mentioned foxing-spotting, this is fairly heavy to the opening few pages, but is then just occasionally scattered in the text. All six colour plates are present as called for. Some of them have some brown staining at the inner margins at the bottom (see final close-up photo).

Olive-green cloth covered boards have full paste down illustration on the front, and gilt titles to the spine. With some slight rubbing to the paste down. Has a small red mark near the bottom spine joint on the front. With a few very faint marks on the rear board. The spine is bright and un-faded, with just a couple of spots. The gilt titles are shiny. A very tight and square book.
