1916 Edmund Dulac's Fairy Book - Fairy Tales of the Allied Nations / Hodder & Stoughton London / Fifteen Colour Plates / In Good Condition

In good condition. With fifteen wonderful mounted colour plates, here is an absolutely beautiful antique copy of Edmund Dulac's Fairy Book. Published in 1916 by Hodder & Stoughton, London - it is a first edition. A large format hardback book. Scarce in such good condition.

Written in the First World War this is a compilation of Fairy Tales from the Allied Nations. With tales from: Russia, England, The Low Countries, Italy, Belgium, Japan, Ireland, Serbia, France and China.

Inside the book opens onto decorative endpapers. Has spotting to the early pages and then sporadically scattered through the text. With a small armorial book plate on the front paste down. Also has a very small inscription (just the number "M188") on the verso of the frontispiece, but no other writing or markings of previous ownership. Has a few minor nicks to the page edges, with one at the bottom of the frontispiece being reinforced on the reverse side with a small square of professional bookseller's tape, but this is minor and hard to spot. Otherwise the pages are clean, bright and tightly bound.

Yellow/golden-brown cloth covered boards have ornate blue and black Art Nouveau decoration to the front and spine. All in top order. Has just some very slight bumping and rubbing of the cloth at the corners, to reveal boards beneath at the tips. Otherwise in very good condition indeed. Clean, bright and un-faded. The book has now been protected for the future by the addition of a removable plastic sleeve.
