1911 The Idylls of the King by Alfred Lord Tennyson / 21 Beautiful Colour Plates by Eleanor Fortescue-Brickdale / WORN RESCUE Copy

Here is a large-format, wonderfully illustrated antique copy of Alfred Lord Tennyson's Idylls of the King. Published by Hodder & Stoughton, London in 1911. With twenty-one colour plates by the artist Eleanor Fortescue-Brickdale (see photos). This copy has a completely cracked hinge at the back. The rear board held in place now by just the two ties - still firmly attached but wobbly. (See photos). Hence selling as a WORN copy. A rescue copy. The contents are still in very good condition and all the gorgeous colour plates are present.

Opens onto mildly tanned endpapers, with an inscription from 1918 on the front free endpaper. Otherwise contents good with just the occasional faint dark handling mark. The top closed edge is gilt. Each tipped-in colour plate has a captioned tissue guard and an ornate gilt border.

Grey papered boards have some marks and chips. With rubbing and chipping to reveal boards beneath in places. Beige cloth spine is in good condition, with a little fraying to the ends.
