1907 A Christmas Carol and The Cricket On The Hearth by Charles Dickens / Cassell & Company London / Beautiful Antique Book / Good Condition

A super antique edition of two of Charles Dickens Christmas novellas. A Christmas Carol and The Cricket on the Hearth. In a large format hardback published by Cassell & Company of London in 1907. With two colour and eight black and white illustrated plates by George Alfred Williams. In good condition, this is an extremely eye-catching copy.

Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound. With some spotting to the endpapers, and foxing around the edges of the tissue guards. Gapes at the gutter in one place, but the pages are very tightly bound. With a small nick to the bottom edge of one page. Has an inked inscription to the front free endpaper but no other writing or markings of previous ownership. All of the illustrated plates are present as called for.

Striking black cloth covered boards have ornate decoration to the front and spine, gilt titles and three paste down illustrations on the front. All clean and bright. With a couple of small initials in gold pen in the bottom front corner - to read "DD" (see close-up photo). Has some rubbing to the corners and spine ends, with a small split in the cloth at the top of the front spine hinge, and some slight cracking to the rear hinge. The binding remains good and strong. The gilt decoration is sparkly bright and this is a super book for 117 years old.
