1890s Christmas Books by Charles Dickens / A Christmas Carol etc. / Chapman & Hall, London / Excellent Condition / Illustrated Antique Book

In excellent condition, here is a super antique copy of the Christmas Books of Charles Dickens. This copy has definitively never been read as most of the pages are still uncut on the top edge (see photos). Undated but would have been published in the 1880s to 1890s by Chatto & Windus, London. Lovely bright boards. With black and white illustrations.

The Christmas books are made up of five Christmas novellas: A Christmas Carol; The Chimes; The Cricket on the Hearth; The Battle of Life and The Haunted Man.

Inside the pages are clean, bright and tightly bound, with some mild spotting to the endpapers and closed outside edges. As mentioned above, the top edges have never been cut open. I have left them like this so the new owner can enjoy opening them as a Victorian would have done. (Can be opened with the edge of a pair of scissors, sharp knife or letter opener). This copy has never been written in and there are no other markings of previous ownership. The black and white frontispiece illustrations has the original tissue-guard still in place - clean and smart. There are several more black and white illustrations.

Red boards have ornate black stamped decoration to the front and spine, gilt Dickens signature to the front and titles to spine. All in top order - with the red on the spine having faded just a little.
