Victorian Illustrated Poetry Book: Shelley's Poetical Works, 1880s Routledge Edition

An extremely eye-catching antique edition of The Poetical Works of Percy Bysshe Shelley. Undated but published by George Routledge and Sons in the 1890s, or possibly a little earlier. Illustrated with five engraved plates. In a striking binding and gilt edged on all sides.

Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound, with some light spotting. The text on each page is presented in a red decorative frame. A small inscription to an early endpaper dated 1897, but no other writing or markings of previous ownership. Very slight cracking to the hinges, front and back. All edges gilt. The engraved plates are in good condition.

In rust brown cloth over boards with grey-blue, black and gilt decoration to the front, back and spine. Again in very good order. With some scratches to the back board (see photos). The front is in top order, with bright decoration and shiny gilt. The spine has dulled just a little in comparison. A little rubbing to the spine ends.
