In excellent condition, here is a superb and finely bound antique copy of Gilbert White's Natural History of Selborne. Bound together with A Naturalist's Calendar and Additional Observations. Undated but with a prize bookplate on the front paste down from 1912. Published by The Walter Scott Publishing Company, London. In a fine full blue polished calf leather, with marbled endpapers, marbled page edges and gilt tooling.
Inside the pages are clean, bright and tightly bound. Has some spotting to the prelims and then just lightly in the text. With the above-mentioned prize bookplate but has no other writing or markings of previous ownership. The endpapers and page edges look lovely with their bright, un-faded blue marbling.
Dark-blue polished calf leather boards have gilt dentelles and tooling to the edges. With a wonderful lion crest in the centre of the front board. All in top order. With five raised bands on the spine, gilt decoration in each compartment and a dark red leather title plate. The blue on the spine has faded in comparison to the boards but the gilt remains shiny bright.
An extremely attractive copy.
Your antique Natural History of Selborne will be wrapped with care in tissue and ribbon* and sent well packaged. I am always happy to add a gift card with a message to the parcel.
