Here is a lovely vintage copy of Ponies and Riders A Book of Instruction For Young Riders by Mrs Victoria Hurst. Published in 1948 by Collins, London. A large hardback, richly illustrated with black and white photos. The contents are in good condition, with the original dust wrapper which does have wear. Generally written primarily for the young reader with the idea of helping novice owners and riders. One thing to note: this is a vintage book from a different era and so there are chapters on fox hunting.
Contents: The Origin of the Horse; Ponies in Great Britain and Eire; Choosing a Pony; Care of Your Pony; Riding; Side Saddles; Training a Pony; A Country Ride; Hunting Through the Ages; Concerning Foxhounds; Manners and Customs in the Hunting Field; Riding to Hounds; A Day's Hunting; A Hunting Glossary; Showing; Jumping at Shows; Point-to-Points; Hunter Trials, Handy Hunter Tests, Gymkhanas, Mounted Games, Mock Hunts; Riding Tours, Camps; Your Pony Club.
Inside the pages are in good condition being clean, bright and tightly bound. This copy has not been written in and there are no other markings of previous ownership. There is a blank Ex-Libris bookplate on the front paste down.
In the original dust jacket. There is wear to this with loss to the head of the spine and a larger area on the back at the bottom (see photo 2). There are some nicks and tears along the edges and the odd chip including to the corners. Despite this the jacket is well worth saving with a charming colour illustration on the front. It has been protected now for the future by the addition of a removable plastic sleeve.
