In good condition here is a first edition, third impression antique copy of The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Originally published in October 1911, this copy is a very early third impression copy from just a few months later in May 1913. Identical in format and design to the first impression. With eight beautiful colour plates by renowned Art Nouveau Golden Age illustrator Charles Robinson. Scarce.
Inside the pages are tightly bound. Opens onto illustrated endpapers (see photos). Has an elegantly-inked inscription on the half-title page dated Shrove Tuesday 1919 but no other writing or markings of previous ownership. With spotting to the endpapers and then mildly and sporadically in the text and the occasional light brown blemish. Has the odd folded corner. The top closed edge is tinted dark green, with some light tanning and spotting to the other edges.
Green cloth covered boards are also in good order. With some rubbing and rounding to the cloth at the corners of the boards. Otherwise front and back board are very good indeed. There is just one tiny pin-prick hole in the front on the girl's dress.
The spine is also good, being un-faded it has kept a good green colour. With some mild rubbing to the cloth at the head and tail with a couple of tiny splits in the cloth at the bottom. The ornate gilt decoration remains bright on both the front and the spine.
Your antique copy of The Secret Garden will be wrapped with care in tissue and ribbon* and sent well packaged. I am always happy to add a gift card with a message to the parcel.
H 21 cm x W 16 cm, 306 pages, 0.64 kg. I dispatch worldwide daily from the UK. With the exception of a small number of countries.
* If you would prefer for your book not to be decoratively wrapped but sent simply in the protective packaging please add a note to the order.
