1909 Happy England, Illustrated by Helen Allingham / A&C Black, London / 80 Beautiful Watercolours / Antique Book in Very Good Condition

A beautiful Edwardian book, richly illustrated and in very good condition. Happy England, published in 1909 by A&C Black, London. With eighty delightful colour illustrations, under captioned tissue guards, reproduced from Helen Allingham's watercolours.

Helen Allingham was a Victorian watercolourist, particularly noted for her delicate depiction of cottages and cottage gardens in southern England. She became the first woman to be admitted as a full member of The Royal Watercolour Society. She is also known for The Homes of Tennyson.

The contents are in very good condition with clean and tightly bound pages. The endpapers have some tanning and spotting and there is a neatly inked inscription on the front paste down. With toning to the closed top edge, and spotting to the other two sides. All of the lovely colour plates are present and each has a clean captioned tissue guard still attached.

In red cloth covered boards with a striking Art Nouveau floral design and gilt titles. The colours on the front are bright. There is some light water staining spots on the bottom half of the front board. These are visible, but faint. The spine has faded in comparison to the front and back, with a few small nicks to the cloth on the spine ends.
