1903 Tales From Maria Edgeworth / Wells Gardner, Darton & Co., London / Lovely Antique Copy / Clean and Bright / Illustrated by Hugh Thomson

In excellent condition here is an antique copy of Tales From Maria Edgeworth. In a beautifully decorated binding and richly illustrated and decorated by Hugh Thomson. Published in 1903 by Wells Gardner, Darton and Co., London.

Maria Edgeworth was a prolific Anglo-Irish writer of adults' and children's literature. She was one of the first realist writers in children's literature and was a significant figure in the evolution of the novel in Europe.

Inside the pages are excellent being clean, bright and tightly bound with no writing or inscriptions. Has a tiny nick to the bottom edge of the title page. With some mild spotting to the edges. The top edge is shiny gilt. The illustrations and chapter headers from Thomson are absolutely delightful (see photos).

Dark maroon red cloth covered boards have shiny bright gilt decoration to the front and spine, and a blind stamped illustration to the back. The red of the spine has faded just very slightly in comparison to the front and back. Has some slight rubbing to the spine ends and corners, and a couple of faint marks on the back. With a very slight bump to the bottom next to the front spine - but minor.
