1897 Natural History and Antiquities of Selborne by Gilbert White / Macmillan & Co. Ltd, London / Richly Illustrated Antique Book

Here is an antique hardback edition of Gilbert White's A Natural History of and Antiquities of Selborne. Published in 1897 by Macmillan & Co. Ltd, London. Richly illustrated and this edition also has a black and white map of the area surrounding Selborne. This copy is 126 years old and so inevitably has some wear and signs of age (detailed below), but remains a lovely copy.

Inside the book opens onto dark green endpapers. There is a faint name here on the front free endpaper and with partially cracked hinges to reveal webbing, but the binding of the text block is good and strong. Has the occasional spot and handling mark. One page has some blue ink blots. Gapes open at the gutter in one place, but again the binding remains very good and strong. The fore-edge is untrimmed. The book has developed a lean, over time. With numerous black and white illustrations throughout.

Dark green cloth covered boards have black stamped design to the front, a blind-stamped border on the back and gilt to the spine. With a couple of faint marks to the front, with some thin shelf wear scuffs on the back. Has some rubbing to the cloth at the corners and at the spine ends. With a minor bump to the top right corner.
