In very good condition, here is a beautiful copy of Lavengro - The Scholar, The Gypsy, The Priest by George Borrow. Published by Macmillan & Co., London in 1896. With numerous illustrations, and with striking Art Nouveau boards by Albert Angus Turbayne.
Looking extremely eye-catching on display.
A semi‑autobiographical novel - part memoir, part fiction - following a young man named George (a stand‑in for Borrow) as he wanders through early 19th‑century Britain, immersing himself in languages, literature, and Romany (Gypsy).
Opens onto super yellow peacock decorative endpapers (also by Turbayne). Has an Ex Libris book plate on the front paste down. Pages are clean, bright and tightly bound. Shiny gilt on all sides.
In striking teal cloth over boards with ornate gilt decoration to the front and spine in the Art Nouveau style. Also in very good order. Rubbing to the corner tips and spine ends. With a few tiny splits to the cloth at the head and tail - but minor. A few very thin scratches to the back - also minor. The gilt has rubbed ever so slightly but remains gorgeous.
Your antique copy of Lavengro will be wrapped with care in tissue and ribbon* and sent well packaged, tracked and insured. I am always happy to add a gift card with a message to the parcel.
