1896 "Gryll Grange" by Thomas Love Peacock: Antique Turbayne Covers, Illustrated

In superb "fine" condition, here is a beautiful first edition thus copy of Gryll Grange by Thomas Love Peacock. Published by Macmillan and Co., London in 1896. With numerous illustrations by FH Townsend and with striking Art Nouveau boards by Albert Angus Turbayne.

Looking extremely eye-catching on display.

Originally first published in 1861, Gryll Grange showcases Peacock’s signature style: philosophical banter, eccentric characters, and a gentle mockery of Victorian society.

Opens onto super yellow decorative endpapers (also by Turbayne). Inside the pages are clean, bright and tightly bound with no writing or markings of previous ownership. With some spotting to the frontispiece tissue guard being the only condition point to note. Shiny gilt on all sides.

In striking dark blue cloth over boards with ornate gilt decoration to the front and spine in Turbayne's signature peacock style. Again in top order. Just some very slight rubbing to the head of the spine - but minor. The gilt in particular is stunning on this one.
