c1900 Hans Andersen's Fairy Tales / Beautiful Art Nouveau Edition / James Nisbet & Co., London / Four Colour Plates / In Good Condition

In good condition, here is a beautiful Art Nouveau edition of Hans Andersen's Fairy Tales. Undated, but would have been published around 1900 by James Nisbet & Co., London. With four colour plates and lovely decoration to the front and spine.

Contains fifty tales with Little Mermaid; The Emperor's New Clothes; The Snow Queen and The Ugly Duckling being amongst them.

Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound, with mild scattered spotting and the occasional faint handling mark/brown blemish. Light tanning and spotting to the closed outside edges. A couple of folded corners. With a couple of splits in the join of the front free endpaper, but minor. All four colour plates are in good order with just one having a faint brown mark near the inner margin (see photos).

Green cloth covered boards have red Art Nouveau floral decoration to the front and spine. In top order. The main condition point to note is that the spine decoration would have originally been inlaid with gilt. The gilt has now rubbed away to leave the olive-green underneath. With just a couple of small areas of the gilt left (see photos). It creates an interesting effect, and the spine still looks super. Otherwise very clean, tight and square. An eye-catching edition.
