c1900 Beeton's Book of Needlework / Ward, Lock & Co., London / Richly Illustrated in Black and White / In Very Good Condition

Here is a super antique copy of Beeton's Book of Needlework. Undated but would have been published around 1900 by Ward, Lock & Co., London. Richly Illustrated with six hundred black and white diagrams and with six fold-out plates. As with all Beeton books, this would have been an essential book, much used in a busy household and so it has inevitably picked up some wear, but remains a lovely book.

Consisting of: Tatting; Crochet; Knitting; Netting; Embroidery; Point Lace; Guipre d'Art; Berlin Work; Monograms; Initials and Names; Pillow Lace and Lace Stitches.

Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound with some scattered spotting. Opens onto beautiful illuminated frontispiece and title page. The inner hinges have been strengthened. With antique advertisement endpapers. Has a name on the front paste down, front free endpaper and its verso. The plates have some creases and spotting and one has a split along one hinge. All edges are shiny gilt.

Rust-brown cloth covered boards have ornate gilt decoration to the front and spine. With some rubbing to the corners and spine ends, where there are a few small splits in the cloth to the latter. It looks as if some splits in the cloth on the spine and front have been repaired in the past. These are hard to spot. With sparkly gilt decoration, this is an eye-catching volume indeed.
