In excellent condition, here is a beautiful first edition thus copy of Peter Simple by Captain Marryat. Published by Macmillan & Co., Limited London in 1895. With numerous illustrations by Ayton Symington and with striking Art Nouveau boards by Albert Angus Turbayne.
Looking extremely eye-catching on display.
Often considered Marryat's most celebrated work during his lifetime. Peter Simple follows the coming-of-age of a young midshipman during the Napoleonic Wars, blending humour, adventure, and vivid depictions of life at sea.
Opens onto super yellow decorative endpapers in Turbayne's distinctive peacock style. These have darkened a bit over time. With a neatly inked name on the front half-title, but no other writing or markings of previous ownership. A couple of pages have a small brown blemish, otherwise all clean, bright and tightly bound. Shiny gilt on all sides, with a few slight scuffs - but minor.
In striking dark blue cloth over boards with ornate gilt decoration to the front and spine. Again in top order. Some mild rubbing to the corners and spine ends and a slight bump to the top front corner tip - but again minor
Your antique copy of Peter Simple will be wrapped with care in tissue and ribbon* and sent well packaged, tracked and insured. I am always happy to add a gift card with a message to the parcel.
