1883 Familiar Wild Flowers by Edward Hulme / Stunning Victorian Antique Book Third Series / Richly Colour Illustrated / Very Good Condition

An absolutely beautiful edition of Familiar Wild Flowers by F Edward Hulme. With forty bright colour plate illustrations and in a gorgeous binding with hand painted flowers on the front board. In very good condition.

Hulme produced five series of his Familiar Wild Flowers over the years and this is a third series collection with forty flowers described in detail each with an ornate decorative initial and footer and its own colour plate. Each volume stands on their own individually. The plates are superb, clean and bright - all are present, and each has the original tissue guard still in place (see photos). The frontispiece illustration has a couple of small nicks to the fore-edge. With a small stamped name at the top of the front free endpaper and a stamp on the verso of the frontispiece illustration, but no other writing or markings of previous ownership.

In a striking green and gold binding with a hand painted flower on the front board. Has a hand-painted "Vol 3" on the spine in black. The boards are a work of art in themselves and with each copy being hand painted they are all unique. The green cloth covered boards have bevelled edges and a gilt and black border on the front with a blind stamped border on the back board, and a blind stamped floral pattern in the middle of the rear board. The front and back boards are in top order. With just a little rubbing to the cloth at the spine ends and some slight fading to the gilt titles on the spine in comparison to the sparkly front. Looking extremely eye-catching on display.
