1842 The Ladies' Magazine of Gardening by Mrs Loudon / Eleven Superb Colour Plates / Diagrams / William Smith, London

Here is a beautifully illustrated antique hardback copy of The Ladies' Magazine of Gardening by Mrs Loudon. With 11 individually hand-coloured plates, (lacks the opening plate). Published in 1842 by William Smith, London. 184 years old! Contents in very good condition, with some wear to the leather and rubbing to the boards.

Inside the pages are clean, bright and tightly bound, with some occasional spotting to the blank, reverse side of the plates. With an inked name on the front title page, but no other writing or markings of previous ownership. The colour plates are absolutely superb. One is mis-paginated and so is on a different place to that stated in the contents.

In a green leather binding, with marbled papered sides. Has a good deal of rubbing to the leather, with some loss in places to reveal boards beneath. The leather surface of the title plate has also been lost at some point to just leave the stamped titles from underneath. Has some rubbing to the boards on the corners and spine ends. With a split to the bottom spine joint with the front board. But holding tightly further up. Rubbing also to the surface marbled paper, with some scuffs and some loss to the surface along the bottom of the rear board.
