An exceptional, deluxe early Georgian example of the foundational 1662 Book of Common Prayer, printed in Oxford by the renowned royal printer John Baskett in the historic year of 1727—the transitional year marking the death of King George I and the ascension of King George II. Condition in detail below.
This specific copy was produced as a premium, luxury variant. It features vibrant red rubrication (two-colour printing) throughout the text pages and borders, a costly process reserved for wealthy 18th-century buyers.
The volume is illustrated with a highly desirable, complete 50-copperplate engraving package interspersed throughout the text. This includes the historically significant plate depicting the martyrdom of King Charles I for the January 30th solemn service.
Bound at the rear, as issued, is The Whole Book of Psalms Collected into English Metre, providing the rhyming, singable hymns used by congregants during the early 1700s, alongside the standard prose Psalter embedded within the main text.

Inside the pages have some tanning and a few brown blemishes. With some nicked edges and one larger closed tear to the fore-edge. Some light staining to the opening few pages. Has some folded corner tips. With a thin ribbon marker and gilt edges again meaning this would have been produced as a deluxe edition. The engraved plates are stunning. Towards the section where the Book of Psalms begins there are some ink marks to the bottom of around half a dozen pages (see photos). The main CONDITION POINT with the contents is that is lacks the marbled front and rear endpapers which have been removed at some point in the book's long history. This has not effected the binding of the text block which is good and strong with no loose pages.

In a red leather binding. This has some wear. Rubbing and scuffing to the surface and extremities. A few faint dark marks to the boards. Fading and rubbing to spine.
