A lovely antique edition of The Mill on the Floss by George Eliot. Published by Blackie and Son Limited of London. Undated, but would have been in the early 1900s. With beautiful Art Nouveau designed boards in the Glasgow School style designed by Talwin Morris, and with black and white plates by TH Robinson. This copy is over 120 years old and has some wear (detailed below), but remains a lovely edition.
Inside the pages have a good deal of scattered spotting and brown blemishes throughout the text. Has a prize book plate on the front paste down. With a few folded corner tips. All six black and white plates are present, as called for and all in good condition. The book has developed a lean, over time.
In extremely eye-catching boards. The design by Talwin Morris uses the Art Nouveau cabbage style rose motif popular in the Glasgow School style of art. With some rubbing and a couple of light faded areas to the boards. Rubbing also to the cloth on the corners and spine ends. The gilt and floral decoration has remained extremely bright, with shiny gilt.
So, with a bit of wear, but remaining a lovely edition. Your Art Nouveau copy of The Mill on the Floss will be wrapped in tissue and ribbon* and sent well packaged.
