Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll / 1929 George Harrap & Co. / Illustrated by Bessie Pease in Colour and Line / Vintage Book

Scarce in this illustrated edition, here is a vintage copy of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. Published in 1929 by George Harrap & Co., Ltd of London. It has wonderful colour plate illustrations by Bessie Pease as well as a number in black line. The contents are in good condition, with some wear to one of the colour plates being the main condition point to note, see below, otherwise lovely.

Bessie Pease was an American artist and illustrator, most noted for her paintings of young children. During the early 1900s she was one of the better-known magazine and book illustrators in the United States

Inside the pages are in good condition, clean and tightly bound with no inscriptions or markings of previous ownership. There is spotting through the text, and the occasional brown blemish and folded corner. Has an inscription at the top of the front free endpaper dated 1930, but no other writing or markings of previous ownership. All eight colour plates are present. As noted above one plate has some nicks, tears and creases. These have been stabilised on the reverse side by professional bookbinder's tape (both sides of this plate are shown in the last two photos). Also has a number of black line drawn illustrations.

Green cloth covered boards have a large colour paste down to the upper panel. Looking clean, bright and smart. With some rubbing and slight bumping to the corners, and a little rubbing to the spine ends. The binding remains good and strong and there are no cracked hinges.
