In very good condition here is a super vintage copy of Dorothy Hartley's culinary classic Food In England. This edition was published in 1979 by Macdonald, London. Richly illustrated throughout.

Food in England was first published in 1954. It's both a cookery book and a history of English cuisine. Hartley's unique approach combines recipes with historical insights, making it a fascinating read for anyone interested in the culinary traditions of England.

The book covers a wide range of topics, from types of food like meat, eggs, fungi, and bread, to methods of preserving food such as salting and drying. It includes practical recipes that can still be cooked today, alongside historical asides that provide context and enrich the reader's understanding of English culinary history.

Inside this copy the pages are clean, bright and tightly bound with no writing or inscriptions. 

Still has the original clipped dust wrapper which is also good. Has some slight edge wear to the corners, with a small nick at the bottom rear corner (see final close-up photo). The green on the spine has faded to a different shade on the outside edge. The jacket has now been protected for the future by the addition of a removable plastic sleeve.
