Delighted with this find of a scarce first edition copy of The Road Goes Ever On- A Song Cycle by JRR Tolkien. An important book for Tolkien fans and collectors. In the original dust jacket which reads:
" For anyone who loves the books of JRR Tolkien, this volume is a must. Bilbo, Frodo, Sam, Treebeard, Tom Bombadil and the Elves often sing in his works, but to date only the words have appeared. Now with the encouragement and assistance of Professor Tolkien, Donald Swann has provided music for seven songs - six from The Lord of the Rings Trilogy and one from The Adventures of Tom Bombadil. Professor Tolkien has embellished the pages with Elvish script and has also produced a glossary of Elvish terms used in the songs.....even non-musical Tolkien readers will cherish the sight of the Professor's handwriting in Elvish and be able to add another volume to their collection of his books."
A beautiful book of music with detailed notes by Tolkien at the end. Published by George Allen & Unwin Ltd, London in 1968 whilst Tolkien was still alive. Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound. With some light spotting to the endpapers and the closed outside edges.
The cream boards are also good having been well protected by the jacket. There is a split at the top of the spine (see close-up photo).
The wonderful - Elvish embellished - unclipped dust wrapper has also fared pretty well. With edge wear nicks to the corners and along the top and bottom edges. With one larger tear to the top front corner. These have now been stabilised with professional bookseller's tape on the reverse side. Has some nicks and chips and some loss at the head and tail (see photos 2 and 3). The titles on the spine have rubbed. With just the odd bit of faint spotting.
A real find for the Tolkien collector your first edition copy of The Road Goes Ever On will be wrapped with care in tissue and ribbon* and sent well packaged. A gift message can be included in the parcel if desired.
