Here is a lovely vintage copy of The Cricket on the Hearth by Charles Dickens. Published in 1927 by JM Dent & Sons, London. With eight colour plates by CE Brock plus also a number of line drawings. Gilt topped pages.

A charming Christmas novella, first published in 1845. It’s the third in his series of five Christmas books, nestled between The Chimes and The Battle of Life. Unlike the ghostly moralism of A Christmas Carol, this tale leans into domestic warmth.

Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound, with a few creased corners. With an inked inscription on the front free endpaper dated Xmas 1940. All eight colour plates are present as called for, and all in very good order.

In a dark green faux leather binding with gilt decoration to the front and spine. This has some wear. Has rubbing to the corners, spine ends and joints removing some of the dark green colour. Also has the odd faint scuff. The gilt decoration and titles are shiny bright.
