1909 Butterflies and Moths of the United Kingdom by Egmont Kirby / 69 Detailed Colour Plates / Lovely Decorative Boards / Lacks One Plate

In wonderfully decorative butterfly boards, here is an antique copy of Butterflies and Moths of the United Kingdom by W Egmont Kirby. Undated but would have been published in the early 1900s by George Routledge and Sons, London. Lacks one of the seventy colour plates (Plate VII). Each colour plate has multiple butterflies (see photos).

Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound with no writing or inscriptions. Has spotting to the endpapers, otherwise just the occasional spot or brown blemish in the text. Has some mild creasing to the front half-title page. With some toning along the closed top edge. The book has developed a lean with time.

In dark blue cloth covered boards with charming butterfly decoration to the front and spine. There is a fair amount of rubbing to the edges and corners, to reveal boards beneath at the tips. With rubbing also to the cloth at the spine ends and some fraying of the cloth at the spine joints (see close-up photo). The front board has a few lightly rubbed areas and a few light white flecks. Despite a little wear looks absolutely wonderful on display.
