What an absolutely beautiful, romantic book. Here is an antique copy of A Book of Old English Love Songs, published in 1897 by Macmillan, New York. Being a selection of songs, poetry and sonnets from multiple authors including William Shakespeare, Nash, Marlowe, Ben Jonson, Dekker and George Wither amongst many others. Wonderfully decorated and illustrated throughout by George Wharton Edwards. Scarce. In good condition, with just two condition points to note: the first being foxing throughout, heavy in places; and the second being a tear in the cloth at the top of the spine.

Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound with no writing or marks. Has the above-mentioned foxing to the endpapers and title pages and then sporadically through the text. Has a cracked hinge at the beginning but not effecting the binding of the text block at all. The top closed edge is gilt. Each poem or song has a superb illustration and there are decorations to the pages throughout.

Dark green cloth covered boards with heavy gilting to the front board and gilt titles to the spine. In very good order. There is a small hole in the green cloth on the back board. With rubbing to the cloth at the spine ends and the above-mentioned split in the cloth at the head. The gilt on the front remains absolutely fantastic.
