1879 Poems by William Cowper: Illustrated Antique Book

In excellent condition, here is a beautifully bound antique copy of Poems by William Cowper. In a lovely deep-lilac binding with ornate gilt. Undated, but published in 1879 by William P Nimmo, Edinburgh. Richly illustrated and with shiny gilt on all page edges.

Inside the pages are clean, bright and tightly bound. Portrait frontispiece with tissue-guard, illustrated title page and eleven further engraved plates. Has a crease to the bottom of the front free endpaper and portrait frontispiece. Pencilled initials to the top of the front free endpaper, but no other writing or markings of previous ownership. Partially cracked hinge papers at the front and back (see photos), but in no way effecting the binding which is good and strong.

Deep lilac-purple cloth over boards have extremely ornate gilt decoration to the front and spine, and blind stamping to the back. Again in top order. Has a scuff to the gilt on the front, and the spine has dulled a bit in comparison to the sparkly front. Otherwise superb, and this is an eye-catching book.
