1822 The Dramatic Works of William Shakespeare - 5 Antique Books

Here are five antique hardback books from 1822. The Dramatic Works of William Shakespeare - with each volume containing three plays. There were originally twelve books in the complete set, published by Walker, Offor, Sharpe and Sons, Edinburgh. An attractive collection that is over 200 years old. With leather spines and marbled papered sides. Condition in detail below.

Volume III - Measure For Measure; Love's Labour's Lost; Merchant of Venice
Volume IV - As You Like It; All's Well That Ends Well; The Taming of the Shrew
Volume V - Winter's Tale; Macbeth; King John
Volume VI - Richard II; King Henry IV - Parts I and II
Volume VII - Henry V; Henry VI - Parts I and II

Inside the contents are in excellent condition. Pages are clean and tightly bound. Each volume opens with a bookplate to the front paste down and an inked name opposite to the front free endpaper.

Tan calf-leather spines and corner pieces. Five bands to the spines with black and red leather volume and title plates. Gilt decoration to the other compartments. Some rubbing and scuffing to the leather in places. Cracking on the spine hinges, with a split to the spine hinge at the top of Volume IV. All in no way effecting the binding of each volume which is good and strong. Rubbing to the surfaces of the marbled papered sides. A couple of white paint marks to the paper on the lower, back board of Volume V. Some loss to the paper on the upper, front of Volume III, to reveal board beneath.
