Here is a vintage set of Jane Austen's six completed novels in five volumes published by Collins of London between 1979 and 1980. (Northanger Abbey and Persuasion are published together in one volume). In the original slipcase box and in very good condition. It is extremely hard to find this set still in the original box and in such good condition. With some fading to the tinted tops of the pages being the main condition point to note (see final photo).
Contains: Sense and Sensibility; Pride and Prejudice; Mansfield Park; Emma; Northanger Abbey and Persuasion.
The volumes are bound in dark red faux leather boards with intricate gilt decoration. The boards and decoration have all remained in super condition, with a couple of small scuffs to the spine of Emma. All of the contents are also in excellent condition. With a few foxing spots to the outside edges. Each book has bright, clean pages. Each volume begins with a short Biography, an Introduction and ends with a short Bibliography of books by and about Austen. As mentioned above the top edges are tinted dark red and this has faded a varying amount across the set.
The slipcase box depicts a BBC adaptation of Emma starring Timothy Peters and Debbie Bowen. Having kept strong, bright colours, apart from in one small area on the top where there is some fading. It is clean, sturdy and should continue to protect the books for many more years to come.
