In excellent condition, here is a lovely antique copy of Tales From Shakespeare by Charles and Mary Lamb. Undated, but with an inscription from 1906. Published by Ward, Lock & Co., London. In attractively decorated boards. More details below.

Tales from Shakespeare has the plays translated into prose designed to make the stories of Shakespeare's plays easier to read. Mary Lamb was responsible for the comedies, while Charles wrote the tragedies.

Contents: The Tempest; A Midsummer Night's Dream; The Winter's Tale; Much Ado About Nothing; As You Like It; The Two Gentlemen of Verona; The Merchant of Venice; Cymbeline; King Lear; Macbeth; All's Well That Ends Well; The Taming of the Shrew; The Comedy of Errors; Measure For Measure; Twelfth Night; Timon of Athens; Romeo and Juliet; Hamlet; Othello; Pericles.

Inside the pages are clean and bright. Has a black and white frontispiece, else unillustrated. With the above-mentioned elegantly-inked inscription to the verso of the front free endpaper, but no other writing or markings of previous ownership. Opens and closes with attractive endpapers.

Dark brown cloth over boards have white and olive-green floral decoration, and gilt titles. Again in very good order. Has some rubbing to the back board. A little rubbing also to spine ends. The decoration and gilt titles are bright, and this is a lovely-looking book.
