c1900 Tanglewood Tales by Nigel Hawthorne / Henry Frowde, London / With Four Colour Plates / Lovely Art Nouveau Decorative Boards

Here is an attractive hardback copy of Tanglewood Tales by Nathaniel Hawthorne. A re-telling of popular Greek myths for children. In a lovely Art Nouveau binding and with four colour plates. Undated but would have been published in the early 1900s by Henry Frowde, London.

Contents: The Minotaur; The Pygmies; The Dragon's Teeth; Circe's Palace; The Pomegranate Seeds; The Golden Fleece.

Inside the book opens onto illustrated endpapers, and has a pencil inscription on the verso of the frontispiece. With mild tanning and spotting to the outside edges and early couple of pages. Then just scattered spotting in the text. With a few folded corner tips. 

Bright blue cloth covered boards have gold cabbage rose design to the front and spine. Has some rubbing away of the cloth on the corners and in places on the edges, to reveal boards beneath (see close-up photo). The front board is otherwise in good order, with just some very light fading near the top. Has some fading also to the cloth on the back. The colours on the spine have dulled a bit in comparison to the front and there is a little rubbing to the spine ends and joints.

So, with a bit of vintage wear, but remaining an eye-catching edition.
