c1900 'Adam Bede' Book by George Eliot, Antique Illustrated Art Nouveau Edition

Here is a lovely antique copy of Adam Bede by George Eliot. Undated, but would have been published in the early 1900s by WP Nimmo, Hay & Mitchell. With striking design to the boards.

George Eliot's debut novel is a rich tapestry of rural life, moral dilemmas and emotional depth, set in the fictional village of Hayslope in 1799.

Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound. Has tanning to the endpapers and just the occasional odd spot and brown blemish in the text. Some tanning to the closed outside edges. Has an inked inscription to the front free endpaper, but no other writing or markings of previous ownership. Has a black and white frontispiece, plus illustrated title page, else unillustrated.

Bright red cloth over boards have green and black decoration to the front and spine, and gilt titles. Rounding to the corners and spine ends, with a few small splits to the latter. Has a light stain mark and another couple of light marks on the back. With the odd scuff and scratch to the pattern - but minor. The decoration and gilt titles remain bright and this is an extremely eye-catching book.
