In excellent condition, here is a vintage hardback copy of Jane Austen - A Study of Her Artistic Development by A Walton Litz. Being a first edition, published in 1965 by Chatto and Windus, London. In the original dust jacket, which reads:

"...The book opens with a consideration of Jane Austen's early apprentice work, her Juvenilia. The author then proceeds to examine her mature fiction in chronological order, charting the development of her major themes and methods. The distinguishing trait of the book is its emphasis not on Jane Austen's works as isolated achievements, but rather on the shape of her entire artistic career, a career in which tradition and innovation were finally harmonized in a new expressive form".

Contents: The Land of Fiction - Juvenilia and Lady Susan; The Sympathetic Imagination - Northanger Abbey and Sense and Sensibility; Into the Nineteenth Century - The Watsons and Pride and Prejudice; Counter-Truth - Mansfield Park; The Limits of Freedom - Emma; New Landscapes - Persuasion and Sanditon; Chronology and Composition.

Inside the pages are clean, bright and tightly bound. Has an inked gift inscription to the top half of the front free endpaper, but no other writing or markings of previous ownership.

In the original unclipped dust jacket. Also very smart. It has some tanned brown blemish marks in places and a white line-mark on the spine. Otherwise in top order.

Your vintage copy of Jane Austen - A Study of Her Artistic Development will be wrapped with care in tissue and ribbon* and sent well packaged. I am always happy to include a gift card with a message in the parcel if desired.
