1936 SCARCE Hindu Fairy Tales - Illustrated Vintage Book

Here is a very scarce vintage copy of Hindu Fairy Tales by Dewan Sharar. Published in 1936 by George Harrap & Co., London. Illustrated by Ernest Aris in a mixture of colour plates, plus full-page and in-text line drawings. In very good condition. More details below.

Being a notable collection of traditional Indian folklore adapted for British readers. Unlike earlier colonial compilations of Indian folklore written by British civil servants, this collection is distinct because it was written directly in English by a native Indian author who understood both the original cultural context and the expectations of a Western audience.

Inside the pages are clean and tightly bound. Slight tanning to the endpapers and mild spotting to the title page and outside edges. A small ink spot on the top edge (see photos). Has an inked name to the front free endpaper, but no other inscriptions or markings of previous ownership.

Blue cloth over boards have mint-green and black decoration to the front and spine. All in top order. Just a little rubbing to the cloth on the corners and spine ends, and a couple of faint dark marks on the back board - but minor.
